The Prada made me do it

Despite my job I’ve never been the kind of girl that takes fashion too seriously. I don’t stop wearing last season’s clothes because they are in fact ‘last season’ and am quite happy to announce to the office that I got a cute dress from Sussans. So spending $5000+ on a handbag (considering my car cost $2500) has always seemed, well, a little excessive.
This was before The Prada. It was snake skin, it was a greeny colour that magically worked with everything in my wardrobe and was roomy enough for my essentials but not so big that I felt like I was always on my way to a sleepover. Oh, and did I mention it was Prada? Basically, it was perfect. The only problem was that it wasn’t exactly mine… Technically, it belonged to handbag rental company Love me & Leave me. But it was mine for three weeks – and I was going to utilise every second!
The moment I realised I’d been sucked in by The Prada was when I arrived home on the first day and exclaimed to my boyfriend that The Prada ‘completed me as a person’. A very concerned look followed and then, “How much would that bag be to buy?” The answer caused said concerned look to grow.
This didn’t deter my dream of purchasing The Prada. It instantly lifted any outfit – it literally made me look chic in trackies. Although the purchasing dream was still going strong whenever anyone commented on The Prada, I quickly told them it was a rental – for some reason it didn’t sit well with me that people though I would spend that much on a handbag. I loved this bag, and it actually made me feel cooler, as embarrassing as that is to admit, but when it comes to the crunch I don’t think I could ever spend that much on a handbag. Or could I…?
